Artist Statement:
Cars have always been more than just machines to me. They are a constant force shaping my identity. My work explores the emotional and psychological space between abstraction and reality, revealing the misconception in my perception of cars and racing. For some, motorsport is a dream, a symbol of freedom and innovation. For me, it is reality; but a reality that carries both exhilaration and darkness.
I paint cars and the sights around the track, capturing both their beauty and their brutality. While my early works were structured and still, my practice has evolved into something more dynamic; fast, blurred, and chaotic. Lately, I have gravitated toward the darker aspects of racing: crashes, collisions, and the violent consequences of speed.
I work with oil on canvas, using quick brushstrokes and instinctive movements to let the paint blend into itself. This process reflects the nature of my subject; unpredictable, raw, and emotionally charged. I want my paintings to feel as fast and dramatic as racing itself, to immerse viewers in the intensity of motion while confronting them with its duality.
I currently have a primary focus on digital work, digitally manipulating images I’ve taken around the racetrack and flattening the background and bringing in a dreamlike quality.
Through my work, I seek to communicate my complex relationship with cars, the love, the obsession, the danger. Racing is not just about victory; it is about everything that comes with it. I want my paintings to be impactful, harsh, and visceral, just like the world they depict.
